About Markus Wettstein, MD
My first introduction into the healthcare industry was just after I completed high school.
I was born and raised in Germany, where military or civil service was mandatory after graduation. I chose civil service and became an emergency medical technician. For 1 1/2 years, I drove an ambulance near a particularly dangerous exchange on the autobahn, and our team was usually the first to respond to the many accidents there.
I remember thinking, “Wow, I can actually keep someone from dying.” At age 18, I was awestruck, and I was hooked. I was in awe of science because it gave me the tools to deal with potentially tragic situations and pull someone through. Having the knowledge and skill to save someone’s life left me wanting to know more.
Because I would have had to wait 3 years to get into medical school in Germany, I came to the United States to obtain my college degree. I was passionate about pursuing a career in medicine and couldn’t imagine having to wait so long to begin my studies. Plus, the United States offered many more options for colleges than Germany had. After completing my undergraduate degree, I chose to complete my M.D. degree with Ross University, an international medical school. This way, I was able to do clinical clerkships in England, which was closer to home.
My original plan was to return to Germany, which reminds me of a joke:
How do you make God laugh?
Tell him/her your plans.
Along those lines, even after my clerkship in Europe, I wound up back in the United States, got married and started a family. I completed my residency in Connecticut. During that time, I learned that my mother had contracted Type 2 Diabetes. Though I had a feeling it was coming due to my observation of her health and lifestyle, it was still hard for me to hear. I poured all my energy and compassion into learning about and fighting diabetes and other endocrinological diseases.
As I studied, I felt drawn towards Endocrinology as a specialty… not only because of my personal connection to diabetes, but also because it requires a lot of detective work. I had to learn to look at data, think about it very analytically, and puzzle out how that information fit into the overall care of a human being. Since I was young, I have always been interested in the natural sciences, cell bio, and what I call the “social society” that is our body. Studying medicine brought me to the realization of how absolute and perfect our human design is. We are essentially a living system of intricate collaboration. Driven by my fascination and appreciation for its complexity, I decided to specialize in Endocrinology.
After my endocrinology fellowship ended, I continued to practice in Connecticut. One of my preceptors sold me his private practice in Hartford. During my 15 years at Hartford Hospital I earned titles such as Director of the Department of Endocrinology and Site Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Program at the University of Connecticut.
About 25 years ago I was offered the challenge to build a Diabetes Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Unfortunately, I had to experience corporate America in all its glory unfolding as a dictatorship unrivaled. Changing administration/hospital affiliation did not alleviate the frustrations. Health CARE was replaced by monetary considerations. As a result, I quit practicing medicine ‘corporate style’.
As I turned to explore my ‘physician burn out’, a dear friend of mine, Peggy Willms, asked me to join her in co-authoring a multi author book series now known as the ‘All Things Wellness’ series.
Book one: The Four Fold Formula for All Things Wellness, introduces the Wellness Wheel. This gave me the opportunity to take a deep dive into my issues as outlined in my story.
Book two: Win the Wellness WAR - we are responsible - for all things wellness. My explorations took me to delve into Consciousness. This gave me the opportunity to use The Wellness Wheel truthfully.
Book three: Wellness G.P.S - Get Prepared for Success - with All Things Wellness. My programs are many but my willingness to fight these increases with the energy flowing through my body.
My frustrations with the new health care delivery industry also lead me to explore new areas of medicine. This was where I uncovered the fascinating developments in the field of energy medicine. As I studied the new field, I realized how quantum mechanics opened a new frontier. Rather than clinging to the materialism of particles, I concentrated on the wave aspect of our being. This developed into a fascinating endeavor of mine as I uncovered the science aspect of what I was trained to call ‘pseudoscience’ in the past. To that end, I am now certified in the administration of a Bio-Well device which measures energy flow in the body via a breakthrough technology called EPI (electrophotonic imaging). This represents a refinement of the Kirlian Photography discovered in the 1930’s.
Amazement, joy, and drive returned as I am exploring this ever expanding new field of science. It is my new goal to utilize modern techniques to use the human biofield for detection of problems before they turn into disease and suffering.
I am excited to share this new knowledge with you. I intend to combine 30 years of medical practice and knowledge with this new Biofield science for the benefit of the interested.
As before, I will continue to provide endocrinology care in my new private practice, Wettstein Endocrinology. To optimize patient outcomes, I collaborate now with Healing Horizons, 2139 N 12th St. #7.
